" Big Chub "
I have been out in just about every type of weather condition you could think off, often at night.
And not my usual two buzzer set up, this is a back to basic's, using an old John Wilson Quiver Tip and a Starlight.
The reason for this, I realised I was bouncing of lots of those, very quick Chub type bites without making contact.
So what do you think it is that "...

My introduction to Barbel fishing may be a bit unconventional as for the last twenty odd years I have been a mad keen match fisherman. However, for the last couple of seasons the desire has started to wane, don't get me wrong I do still enjoy the competitions through the summer months but I no longer have the desire to break the ice and scratch for a few ounces of Roach in the winter anymore.

Winter now means Barbel, a fish that has really caught my imagination after being fortunate...

Tony,
Thankyou for making me clearer on a few points regarding your recent captures, and the history of events.
I have always been Irked that these fish have been reported as "Ouse captures",when plainly they have come from Kickles, which is exclusive to only a few Anglers, and in no danger of pressure from additional Anglers, and the press should report it as such.
I am suprised that your recent Biggie was not familiar to you as an Ouse regular, though I totally respect...

Why is it that some anglers on here have to name stretches of water and the size of certain species that are caught from them and they’re not even fishing the venues?!?!

This has happened a few times now and I would like to suggest that a rule of thumb be, that if you are compelled to post a catch you keep it to your own! name the river not the stretch.

often read about people using superglue to stick their baits on. Dont you think the fish can smell it ? I can it stinks. This i find strange as we recognise that most fish, barbel and carp especially, have an excellent olfactory system, but we seem to disregard it at times. Another point is the use of plasticine as a weight. Again this has a strong smell. do barbel ever pick up the plasticine thinking it is food ?
