I've just returned to serious barbel fishing after a break of around 20 years and am learning many new things besides re-learning many of the old ones. Would just like to say that I have found this site a tremendously helpful resource in my learning/re-learning. Thank you all!

I notice the ‘Severn Advice Needed’ strand has headed off in this direction (rather bitterly it seems), as have other strands in the past. Personally, I‘m happy to discuss all matters regarding Barbel (and fishing in general), including the location of my catches if these are significant or contribute to the discussion. It was 9.45pm. The rod took off and I dived after it and caught it in mid air. The fish snapped off.

The mud went up to my ears with my headfirst dive.
Soaked I went home.

On returning from India I decided to give the River Marden a go, I've fished it a few times this season already.

I had a great day with 5 barbel, the biggest being a whisker over 10lb! The river record is said to be 10lb 1oz in the club book but is quoted as 10lb on the BS site. A chap I met on the bank said the record was 11 something! Someone else told me the record is now 10lb 4oz.

Does anyone know what the official Marden record is? Wandering around Leslies earlier my eyes fell on them and I steadfastly ignored the craving to purchase for at least 45 seconds anyway.

£7.90 later having cut my way through PowerPro, Snakebite, SnakeSkin, Super Mantis, Merlin, Supernova and the worst nightmare of all Multistrand I think I can say that they seem to work.

For all those that are not happy with their current landing net handle and want a new one, I can strongley reccomend the Fox Stalker big fish.
It's an extendable carbon pole, very strong,slim,stiff and very light. Dark green in colour with a duplon hand grip and alloy threaded connector.
It extends to 0ver 108" and has a neat and relliable device to lock the two poles together.

l have read your excellent articles on rod building & now have a question l wish to put to you.

Cork handles......

You mention various adhesives in your article,all of which l'm having trouble finding, so therefore l'm now looking for alternatives, perhaps UNIBONDS NO NAILS would fit the bill, however l do have some reservations about the waterproofing properties of this glue.
