New user here so Hi to all.

A question was raised a while back regarding whether there are any barbel in the Nene. (Dan Whitelock)

I can confirm that around 12 to 15 years ago 400 barbel of around 8 oz each were introduced in to this river by the environment agency (or whoever it was then) near Oundle. This was witnessed by my father and brother who were working alongside the river at the time.

When ledger fishing I tend to use a hooklength of approx 24 to 30 inches,I occasionally reduce this to about a foot,in hope that when using a lighter bait ie casters, that it that it keeps the hookbait closer to the bottom, usually dependant on the flow.I would much appreciate any advice as to using a longer hooklength,I have considered going up to possibly 5 or 6 ft and was wondering what your views, or possible experiences of a long hooklegth might be.
These residents live in the Diglis area of Worcester, which backs directly onto the Severn, above the weir at Worcester. I may be taking a harsh view of this, but I say if you don’t want the river in your front room, then don’t buy a house next to the river!
