I read somewhere that at it's peak it was in excess of 70,000.

I would be surprised if today's membership totalled 1/10 of that number.

And how many visiting anglers never buy a card but continue to fish their waters on a regular basis and risk paying for a ticket should the bailiff come round?

And it's not just BAA which suffers this abuse of the system; my own local association, (Telford Anglers Association), is also a victim of this type of abuse....

I have recently moved from London to Dumfries & Galloway in south west Scotland which has great Game and Course Fishing but no Barbel !, I would like to offer anyone who is intrested a fishing trip up here, I can get guest tickets on my local Rivers the Nith and Annan for Salmon/Sea trout and some wonderfull Winter Grayling after November 1st as well as Great Pike fishing on local Lochs in the area and even some Tench Fishing during the warmer months.

I just wondering what other anglers opinion on this question are?
Do fish have much in the way of mental capability, or is it inherent fear of any thing that appears unnatural. Do some fish species possibly develop instinctive fear due environmental pressures?
Most of fishing is for chub or carp. These species behave in very different manners i.e Chub are very shy and fearful of any thing that seems unnatural but without alarming that sense of fear they are on the whole quite easy...

The best tactic for the Wandle

Does anyone know what the best tactic for fishing the wandle is? Went yesterday (2nd) used standard hemp,caster, luncheon meat but got nothing!! tried trotting pellets down some likely looking runs but still nowt. even tried some sweet corn but even that failed me!! Any advice from wiser heads than me would be most gratefully received!!

This is unused, just doesn't suit my style of fishing as I'm only using one rod with tip & butt protectors instead.

Paid £45 for it a few months back, I think they go for £40 though so asking for £35.00 no rush to sell so no offers - it's too bulky to post really so looking for collection/meet Chester/Manchester areas.

Reel Advice

Can anyone recommend a reel, now for trying to explain, I am after a reel not over-sized as to out balance a 1.5 t/c 12ft rod but medium sized and heres the big one, it needs to have a large spool (not so much deep) but large as in making casting a light bait with no end tackle or floats etc... on the line.
I did have a daiwa regal, just the cheap purple one which is ideal in size but has only lasted about 18 months of free-lining and surface fishing for carp.
